Show us the Distros!

There are some really good distros that are coming out that don't seem to be gaining any attention, and others that everyone should definitely have a look at.

For instance, I just started using Linux Mint and I must say it's been the best experience I've had with Linux so far. I'd also like to see other distros demonstrated so people can see what is out there other than just Ubuntu, which seems to be getting all the attention lately.

What do you think?

great idea

that sounds pretty cool. and with all the distros out there, there would be a never-ending ammount of content. what about this? giving a poll on this site every week of what upcoming distro you would like to see being demonstrated?

Excellent in theory

That is a fantastic idea. I'm just a little worried I won't get the time to install and play with it. Would there be a standard test I would have to do? Browse? Play media? ??

Overall I love this concept. I was actually thinking about this a little further and wondering if someone else would like to do the distro test segment? I'm still thinking about how best to incorporate other content.

You could do things like

You could do things like explain its package manager and how that differs from others systems, any cool features you've found to like, maybe even ease of use. Whatever you want, just be creative; that's what will make the show great.

I have a thought.....

How about this, generally the first impression of a distro is when you boot into the cd correct? so as long as it's knoppix based, just do a review based on what is possible right from the disk boot up. just get a handfull of dvd-rw's & cd-rw's and that way resources wouldnt be spent so much. I have thought about maybe taking on the task of doing this segment of the show but I am not sure how I could base this around my future school/work schedule *plus i'm kinda camera shy*. I'm still thinking about it, but if you want, I can make my descision in about a week from now.

1 other thing that would make it easier is you can use WUBI with virtually any distro to install on a virtual partition ala-ntfs file. the only thing about that is you couldnt really judge the speed of the distro as this is hindered by the ntfs to linux os pass through.

Yeh, Live CD is possible.

Yeh, Live CD is possible. Xavier2010, why not do a test for me, and we'll see how good the quality of the video is. It'll need to be 720x576, with good sound quality.
